theVPN's young adult drama series, "Winchester," finished up its first season last Thursday with a drama filled two-part finale. Series co-creator and showrunner, Matthew James, has already confirmed that season two will go forward, as the crew begins planning to start production as soon as possible, he also expressed his 'excitement' in relation to the major changes being implemented next season.
One of the biggest shockers is the fact that Jake Abel's character, "Blake" will not be returning for season two, leaving Blake Lively's character, "Tracy," as our new series lead. Showrunner, Matthew James had this to say about the character's departure, "Our show was never about "Blake." It was about a kid who goes to a new school, the show's core was about the people he meets there. I definitely see a show without Blake."

Although Jake Abel was the first to announce his departure, he was not the last, as Dianna Agron, who portrayed the character "Cate Foxx" during season one, leaves her regular/recurring cast status for season two. However, she is expected to appear in at least one episode next season, as a special guest.

After the fatal events of the season finale, it is uncertain whether or not Josh Zuckmerman or Alison Brie will return next season as fan-favorites, "Charlie" and "Lucy" respectively. Confirmation can be expected in the coming months as season two begins production.

The first bit of casting news for season two has been released. The official statement is below:

Colton Haynes, the Teen Wolf and Arrow star is set to appear during the second season in the recurring role of trust fund student Derek Pierce. Producers revealed that Derek is a womanizer with a rough exterior, but underneath this facade is a decent anti-hero. Derek will set his sights on one of Winchester's female leads. He will also form a close bond with one of the guys as well.

Along with the above statement, co-creator and executive producer, Chris Davis is in negotiations to, at least, co-write the season two premiere. As of today, nothing has been confirmed, but when asked directly, Davis had this to say --

"I wrote the season one premiere along with Matt, and was greatly involved in the initial development of the series, and if asked to come back as a writer, I wouldn't say no. I've often wanted to be more involved in the show's production, but had obligations to Trinity. Now that I no longer have those obligations, in the same degree at least, I could definitely see myself freeing up enough time for Winchester season two."

So, there you have it! If you haven't gotten yourself familiar with "Winchester" and its BIG set of characters, now's a great chance to read all 12-episodes of season one! If you're already a fan of the show, expect more exclusive updates on season two as production quickly moves forward!
