RUMOR: A New Jossverse Project In the Works?

2/10/2013

Joss Whedon is a man who has inspired many writers on theVPN. The network itself has hosted a number of Jossverse spinoffs and continuations over the past four years of operation, including Faith the Vampire Slayer, and Angel: The Virtual Continuation, both penned by Jack D. Malone, who would later go on to develop "Watchtower." As well as the two short lived virtual spinoffs "Connor," created by Matthew James and "Fabulous Cordy," from Nicole Rodriguez.

There was even a Buffy the Vampire Slayer continuation on the horizon that would fall under Malone's Buffyverse continuity, however, production came to a close before the series could officially premiere in 2010. Since then, Jossverse on theVPN has been fairly quiet, but it looks like there may be hope for it yet!

There have been whispers of plans to expand on a Joss Whedon show, but it's probably not the one you're thinking of...

That's right! "Firefly," the short lived, but highly loved, science fiction epic from Joss Whedon might be getting resurrected for theVPN. "Trinity" and "Hellbound" creator, Chris Davis, is the one behind the potential project, and had this to say about its future, if it even has one;

"I've always said that my dream project would be to do something within the Firefly universe, but, out of respect for the quality of the show, never considered myself prepared, as a writer, to take on such a project. I still do not consider myself ready, but if I were to wait until I was half as talented as the people behind the show, well... let's just say it would never happen. Now that I've decided that I "can" do it, the pressing question becomes "should I do it?" Some things are better left untouched, and I understand that completely. Still, I won't let that stop me from giving it a shot , just to see if it works; and if doesn't, then I'll move on. Simple as that."

Davis is currently developing the spy drama, "The Agency," along with Jason T. Davis, and has confirmed that to be his "main priority," leaving the potential Firefly continuation as a "one day" or (at the most) a "side-project." Taking time out to watch the series in its entirety, along with the film (Serenity), Davis tells us that if the project were to go ahead on day, he would continue the story Joss told, as Captain Malcolm Reynolds as his ragtag crew look for jobs wherever they can get them, whilst struggling to keep under the radar of The Alliance. The events that occurred in "Serenity" would not affect this project at all.

So what do you think of a Firefly virtual continuation? Good idea? Or is the Firefly-verse better left untouched?
